Full Day Kindergarten being restored

Harrisburg School District will be restoring the full day kindergarten program for the 2014-15 school year. Additional kindergarten classrooms will be added to the elementary buildings to accommodate this change. The last day to enroll for kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year will be September 2, 2014. Those who enroll after this date will be placed on a waiting list.

Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2014 to be placed in the kindergarten program. Parents are required to register their child at the Pupil Services office at the administration building located at 1601 State Street, Harrisburg, PA (the former Lincoln School).

The registration process is by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling the Pupil Services office at 717-703-4008. The Harrisburg School District assigns students to neighborhood schools according to their address zone. Once the child is registered, the parent then signs up for an appointment time for their child to be given the Kindergarten BRIGANCE Screener. This screener takes approximately 15 minutes and assesses the child in the domains of academic/ cognitive in literacy and mathematics, language development, and physical development, gross motor skills, and visual motor skills.

The District is excited to have full-day kindergarten return in August 2014.

To register, you will need:

• A completed kindergarten registration packet • A copy of a lease/mortgage and a utility bill
• Original birth certificate
• Original immunization record

Also, helpful are:

    • Student social security card
    • Parent photo identification
    • If appropriate: agency placement letters and court orders
